Are you currently facing a significant change in your life or career? Perhaps you've experienced a sudden shift in your job, or you're considering making a significant life change. Regardless of the situation, change can be a challenging and stressful experience. But what if there were strategies you could use to help you navigate the stress and fear that often comes with change? In this blog post, we'll explore the science of change and provide you with some valuable strategies to help you successfully manage the process.
Recently, I had the opportunity to speak at the University of California San Diego's Transformational Leadership Program on the topic of The Neuroscience of Change.
As a speaker and quantum success coach, I believe that understanding the science behind the change is crucial for new generations of leaders and change-makers. During my talk, I shared the latest research on the brain and how our brains are wired for habit and routine. Here are some key takeaways from my talk:
1. Three Paradigms of Change
When we experience change, we often find ourselves in one of three paradigms: the reactive paradigm, the proactive paradigm, or the creative paradigm. The reactive paradigm is when we react to change by feeling helpless and stuck. The proactive paradigm is when we take control of the change and make a plan to move forward. The creative paradigm is when we embrace change as an opportunity for growth and innovation.
2. The Learning Loop
Learning without taking action is delaying our results. Stuck in the loop without results, we may label ourselves as: Lazy, unmotivated, and a procrastinator.
3. Overcoming Fear
Fear is a natural response to change, but it can also be a barrier to growth. To overcome fear, we need to acknowledge it, understand it, and reframe it as an opportunity for growth. We can also use visualization techniques and positive self-talk to help us manage our fears.
4. Nervous System Calibration
Our nervous system plays a significant role in how we respond to stress and change. By practicing techniques such as breathing exercises, meditation, and yoga, we can help to regulate our nervous system and manage our stress levels.
5. Shifting out of Fight or Flight
When we experience stress, our body's natural response is to go into fight or flight mode. By practicing techniques such as mindfulness and gratitude, we can shift out of fight or flight and into a more relaxed state.
6. Dealing with Stress
Change can be stressful, but there are many strategies we can use to manage our stress levels. These include exercise, self-care, and social support.
7. Building Neurological Fitness
Finally, by practicing habits such as gratitude, mindfulness, and positive self-talk, we can build neurological fitness and increase our ability to manage change and stress.
In conclusion, change can be a challenging and stressful experience, but it can also be an opportunity for growth and innovation. By understanding the science of change and practicing the strategies outlined in this blog post, you can successfully navigate any changes in your life or career. Remember to embrace the learning loop, manage your fears, and take care of yourself along the way.
I will be delivering this presentation to the Colorado business community on April 18th at the Women's Luncheon hosted by the Cherry Creek Chamber of Commerce. If you're in the Denver area, I would love for you to join us.

Neuroscience of Change:
Unlocking The Potential for Business Growth
Have you ever felt like no matter how hard you try, you can never seem to measure up to your own expectations or standards?
In a world that often glorifies perfectionism, it can be easy to fall into the trap of thinking that nothing less than perfect is good enough. But the truth is that perfectionism can be a double-edged sword, leading to unnecessary stress, anxiety, and even burnout.
I'm Malvina, a Quantum Success Coach, and in this article, I'll debunk some of the common myths surrounding perfectionism and shed light on the ugly truth about its negative effects. We'll explore how perfectionism can hold you back from achieving your goals and why it's important to embrace progress over perfection.
1. Perfectionism equals excellence
Many people believe that perfectionism is the same as striving for excellence, but this is not true. Perfectionism often involves setting unrealistic standards and being overly critical of oneself and others, which can be harmful.
2. Perfectionists are always successful
Perfectionists may achieve a lot, but they are not always successful. Their fear of failure and constant self-criticism can hold them back and cause them to miss opportunities.
3. Perfectionists are happier
Some people believe that perfectionists are happier because they achieve more and have higher standards, but the opposite is often true. Perfectionism can cause anxiety, depression, and other mental health problems.
4. Perfectionists are detail-oriented
While perfectionists may be detail-oriented, they often get bogged down in minutiae and lose sight of the bigger picture. This can cause them to miss deadlines and fail to achieve their goals.
5. Perfectionism is a positive trait
It is actually a personality trait associated with negative outcomes. Perfectionists often struggle with low self-esteem, procrastination, and burnout.
From a neuroscience perspective, perfectionism is a limiting belief that if one can achieve perfect results, they will feel good about themselves and be accepted and valued by others. However, this belief is flawed and quite disempowering because perfection is impossible to attain, and the constant pursuit of it leads to feelings of failure and disappointment.
This cycle of constantly striving for perfection and never feeling satisfied with one's efforts or achievements reinforces feelings of low self-worth. As a Mindset Coach, I often see cases where perfectionism leads to self-criticism and self-doubt. In reality, perfectionism is often a symptom of low self-worth because those with low self-esteem often feel a need to prove their worth and value to themselves and others.
As a former perfectionist, I can tell you from my own experience that striving for perfection is masking a lack of self-acceptance and the need to compensate for insecurities. However, the constant pursuit of perfection only reinforces feelings of inadequacy and self-doubt. In my case it stemmed from a fear of failure and a deep-seated belief that my self-worth was tied to my achievements and success.

Our beliefs influence our thoughts, our thoughts determine our actions and our actions create our results. Whether we’re consciously creating those results or not, our reality is our responsibility. So if you’re feeling stuck, unmotivated, or like you’re not living up to your full potential, you must look inward. There are 3 paradigms, mental programs, that are known to influence our habitual behaviors and can cause you to stay in your comfort zone and play small.
They often show up as soon as we begin to take bold steps toward growth and expansion. You see, your mini mind is wired to keep you small. Whenever it senses a sign of growth, it feels threatened and deploys one of these paradigms to hold you back from stepping into your full potential.
The sooner you identify which of these paradigms are distracting you from your goals, the quicker we can work together to correct these habits!

The first paradigm is DELAY. This is one of the major reasons that people are not achieving their goals. Many people fall into the trap of waiting for the perfect moment, the right opportunity, or more information before taking action toward their goals. However, this habit of delay can be detrimental to success.
Perhaps you’re waiting to learn more, get certified, be better prepared, or wait until things calm down BEFORE taking action. If you are waiting for something to fall into place before you take purposeful action, your vision will never become your reality.

The second paradigm is DISTRACTION. We do not lack time, we lack priorities. Distraction can be difficult to identify because in our minds we may have convinced ourselves we’re being purposeful with our time. For example, let’s say one of your clients requested that you provide a customized service that you don’t typically offer. You proceed to dedicate precious time and resources to satisfy their request and possibly lose money in the process. You end up getting distracted from your original focus of launching a new product, the one that you know would be in high demand and would let you scale your impact and your revenue quicker.

To overcome distractions and stay focused on our own success, it is important to identify our priorities and allocate our time and energy accordingly. This may involve setting clear boundaries, saying no to tasks and commitments that do not align with our goals, getting clear on our core values, and creating a life vision that will become our North Star.
When we stop reacting to life’s circumstances and take control of our time, we shift from being at the effect of life to becoming a cause of our life. This powerful mindset shift can help us overcome the pitfalls of distraction and move closer to achieving our goals.

The third paradigm is DISSUASION. Have you convinced yourself that your dreams are not actually that important? You don’t really need to push yourself because you are content. Check yourself on these thoughts. While it’s perfectly normal to modify your goals, be mindful of your intention behind changing those goals.

One way to do this is to regularly review and reflect on our goals and ensure that they are still aligned with our values and what is most important to us. We can also seek support and guidance from others, such as a mentor or coach, to help us stay motivated and on track toward achieving our goals.

Have you fallen into one of these pitfalls? There’s good news! Just as our thoughts can cause our habits to align with these paradigms, we can shift our mindset into something more aligned with the highest version of ourselves.
